    Spanish Olympic Team Visit

We were recently very fortunate to be joined in Secondary by members of the Spanish Olympic team, who demonstrated the use of equipment to children in Years 8 and 9.

Sporting Success!

Congratulations to the Year 5 and Year 7 boys on their recent cup winning success in the Benjamin football league.

Well done also to all the children who helped us to come second in this year's Inter-Schools Athletics Tournament.

Internet Awareness Day

We celebrated the 'Dia del Internet' with a talk for all pupils in Years 7 to 11 from the President of the 'Asociación Española de Usuarios de Internet'. This was organised by the A.P.A. and focussed on aspects of internet security and social networking.

In Primary, prizes were given to the participants in a competition to design a poster related to e-safety.

World Book Day

Thank you to all of the teachers for organising a fantastic book day on 23rd April. The Primary children had a great time dressing up as book characters and hearing their teachers' favourite stories. A special well done to the children who won the short story competition.

Secondary celebrated with a 10 minute read for all pupils in registration and pupils came dressed as their favourite fictional character.  A book token was given to the best costume and Sigmund Freud (Geoffrey) hosted the event, watched closely by Sherlock Holmes, Alice in Wonderland and the ‘teletubbies’, amongst others!

Sports Day

Our annual Sports Days at Primary were held on 19th and 20th  April this year. The children demonstrated their physical skills and also took part in a number of fun races. Everyone had a fantastic time - and even the rain stayed away for a few hours!

Thanks to Mr Daniel for organising the events and thanks to all of the parents who came along to support their children.

Salamanca

Year 13 students went on a cultural trip to Salamanca. They had the chance to visit both the Old and the New cathedrals as well as feel like Bert, the chimney sweeper from "Mary Poppins", and walk on their roof tops. They also went into the church of San Esteban and to the University to experience what lessons would be like into Fray Luis de León and Miguel de Unamuno's classrooms; of course, they all found the famous "little frog"!
They will all be successfull at University! The whole group got invited by the dean of the Philology College to visit the "Aula Magna", as he was most impressed by their behaviour on the
train; we also tasted the local food in "Las Caballerizas" as well as in the restaurant of "Colegio Fonseca" where, once again, the group got praised for their politeness. Our last stops were to "Lys" museum and the Garden of Calisto and Melibea.

A great trip for a great Year. We are very proud of you!

Secondary Outings

A group of Year 11 students went on a paintballing trip to the hills north of Madrid. This was a reward trip for those pupils with the greatest number of positive referrals. We were accompanied by two teachers from school. A break in the routine is always gratefully received! It was great to be able to shoot our teachers and feel a bit like James Bond. We thank Mrs Mazón for her support in this outing. (Jimena)

Early in the year all Year 9 went to IMAX on a Biology trip. Miss Keenan and Miss Ratna came with us. First we went to VIPS for breakfast, and then we watched a movie. It was about the human body. It followed a family through the day, explaining how their bodies worked with each movement. It was very interesting because we learnt many new things. Afterwards we had some fee time and then we returned to school. We had lots of fun but at the same time we learnt a lot too. (Natalia)

University Calling

During April, Mr Wickham and some students attended a talk by the Harvard Club of Spain in the hotel Hesperia. Useful information was given on admission to Harvard College, Massachusetts, USA. Please see Mr Wickham for more information.

Musical Evening - Part Two

The second Musical Evening, held in the theatre on 15th April, was also a tremendous success. It featured a mix of instrumentalists, vocalists and dancers in a tribute to Michael Jackson. Many thanks to Mr Roberto for organising this wonderful event and to all the children who took part.

Musical Evening - Part One

Congratulations to all of the children who volunteered to demonstrate their skill at playing a musical instrument during the first Musical Evening on 16th March.

Years 10 to 13 Geography students visit to the Tablas de Daimiel and the Lagunas de Ruidera

This was a unique experience, as our visit, in February, coincided with the sudden end to a long period of man-induced drought in the area. Despite the wettest winter in recorded rainfall measurement history (the wettest for at least 65 years) the water table is still 27 metres below the National Park, called the ‘ugly duck’ of Spain’s National Parks because of its abandonment. Saved by the rain… temporarily!!

If you wish to read an illustrated article written by Mr. Wickham about the visit and the issues, useful to any Geography student, traveller or anyone interested in wildlife and ecological issues, please ask the secondary office (paper or CD).
